Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation brings to completion the grace received through Baptism. By this Sacrament the baptized are more perfectly bound to the church and are enriched by the strength of the Holy Spirit. This gift conforms believers more fully to Christ and strengthens them to bear witness to Christ for the building up of his body in faith and love.  

At Christ the King Parish, the Sacrament of Confirmation is typically celebrated in the Spring of the 8th grade year.* While we do not yet know the date for the Sacrament of Confirmation, we will make that information available to you as soon as we receive it from the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

The Sacrament of Confirmation requires that a candidate be baptized in the Catholic Church.  Preparation for this Sacrament is necessary,  and in accordance with the Sacramental Preparation guidelines of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, students are prepared in the following ways:

Students who are NOT enrolled in a Catholic School:

• enroll and participate in parish faith formation  ( for more information click HERE)
• attend an additional student-only Catch the Spirit meetings each month
• attend a brief meeting in August with their parent and Meredith Troyan, Coordinator of Youth Ministry to review requirements and collect materials.
• must complete service hours

You will find a complete calendar of Catch the Spirit sessions within the registration form.   You will also be directed to sign up for your August meeting within the registration form.

Students who ARE enrolled in a Catholic School:

• prepare for the Sacraments during their Religion classes at school. 
• attend the spring retreat and rehearsal listed within the registration form. 
• Parents of children enrolled in Catholic School are asked to attend a brief virtual meeting on Wednesday, September 14th at 7:30 PM to review requirements.
• must complete service hours

All families wishing for their child to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at Christ the King Parish
must complete the registration form (see link below) so the parish can accurately verify/ record the Sacrament (s).  

All families who are NOT registered parishioners at Christ the King Parish will need to obtain a letter from the pastor of their home parish granting permission for their child to receive the Sacrament at Christ the King Parish by November 1st, 2022.  This includes Catholic School families.  These letters can be sent via mail or email to

All families of children who were baptized outside of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh will need to provide a copy of the child's Baptismal certificate NO LATER than November 1st.
